What new to me?

Dell now has CAMM for RAM upgrade
Some models have “normal” SoDIMM slots, others have CAMM.
On one model (I forgot which one), Dell has the RAM slots as a CAMM module itself!
I’m assuming most models are like this, so you can just upgrade to CAMM, or replace the RAM slot module if its fucked!

Dell’s DGFF GPUs are not all compatible.
From the 7730 and onward, Dell got rid of the MXM GPUs and have their own proprietary card & connector.
Mine had the DGFF connector on one side, the I/O opposite of it.
The 7750 & 7760 models have the I/O adjacent instead of opposite.
The 7770 & 7780 models have a pentagonal shaped DGFF module…
The 7670 has a similar shape to the 7770/80 but not as wide…
The 7680 has a wider shape than the 7670, unsure if 7780 compatible/swappable.

Dell made TWO chassis for the new 16″ Workstation
There’s a “thin” and a “performance” variant of these machines.
Via the documentation, I can’t tell if one has certain CPU options, batteries, or screens not available from the other.
The documentation doesn’t specifically state the thicker “performance” chassis, has dGPU as default only, you can fucking get the iGPU maybe.
Also the thinner chassis has room for only 2 m.2 slots, the thicker has 3 m.2!

They’re like a latitude but IDK if they’re actually based on one.

Price guide will start oldest to newest, from 17″ down to 14″
Some systems are grouped together, others will be by year.

I have 3 price recommendations, low, mid and high; which are all based on sold ebay listings. Say if 200 systems sold, the page is sorted with the lowest to highest. While scrolling through the page, the low price will be about 30% of the page, mid is about 55-60% and high will be 75-83%. I will try to disregard broken machines, so say if there are 50 absolute trash machines out of 200, then I’ll start the guide from the 50th sold listing and go from there… However there are some cases where broken systems are just the norm, especially with old machines.

Additionally there is an EX+ price which is past my recommendation, however those are often sold with guarantees by authorized refurbers, better warranties, hi or rare spec’d models & from niche or bespoke sellers.
From what i’ve encountered, you can get high end models, at a low price, and you can get absolute JUNKED machines at high end prices… just choose wisely.

Why are some machines sold cheaper than others while having the same exact specs and similar conditions? Could just be the BIN price set and its a steal. Could be an auction that people don’t want to gamble on. Some sellers just test that it turns on, post a photo of the bios splash screen and call it a day. Others will meticuosly list everthing wrong with it, the specs, and their testing, and have an operating system… guess which gives more confidence? So who will bid with more confidence? But also there’s times which a listing will end, it’ll just sell cheaper, bc of the last minite bidders wont bid on it. A;lso there’s quite a bit of them that fall under the radar, i really dont know it just happens, cant expalin it. There’s also those who say “battery not tested, not warrantied” depending on its age, it’ll work or not, but honestly you’ll get people who say “works great, just needs to be plugged in” and they’ll sell higher than those with that disclaimer.

Sold is how many laptops sold…. higher is better, because you’ll probably get a better deal, but low numbers (sub 30) is bad bc sellers might be able to ask a higher price thanks to it.

Lastly the bullet points are just notes that I jot down when looking at that model’s prices. If it doesn’t make sense, its because I drink alcohol a lot, or it could be banter.

Classic Pentium Machines

• M40 – None sold or available… rare pepega!
• M50 – untested system, looks to be in good shape… wait, cracked bottom cover, missing both front things, probably hard drive and CD drive? nvm DVD is there, might be a floppy or maybe a hard drive (doubt) missing.
• M60 – low system boots, 2nd system untested… comes with a 1.7GHz
• M70 – low system boots to windows, mid boots to bios.
• M20 – low-mid systems as is, high is working, fixed up. all are BIN

Not my style at all, but if you want a vintage CAD system instead of a gaming system, maybe this may be the case. A Voodoo or Clevo laptop might be better. All of these are based on other system builds, but I’m not sure how parts swappable they are. Would be cool if you can just swap graphics tho, all these had some sort of proprietary GPU interface.

2006 – 2007 Core 2 Duo

• M90 17″ – 2 refurbished, 1 or 2 fixer uppers
• M65 15″ – 4 systems working 🙂
• M6300 17″ – EX+ can be ignored, 160 can be that instead. A lot of non-hdd, no charger systems sold, but but one systems turn on to bios, no broken screens.
• M4300 15″ – price just fucking jumps…. two systems over 200 bucks, nah, it it can come with extreme.
• M2300 14″ – 2 bids… not sought after, eh the D630 is a kinda ugly laptop vs a 14″ T60p

Core 2 Duo/Quad & 1st Gen i5, i7

• M6400 17″ – most boot to bios only, maybe 6 systems with hard drives, two covets sold up to mid price, third at EX+. a german seller has one for like $400 with a T9400… meanwhile C2Q sold for much cheaper 🙂 but… its sold by bitte-kaufe-mich, so I have no doubt they spent great time & repairing it to high standards.
• M4400 15″ – damn this shit is banging. uhm they get kinda pricey tho. just about all systems boot to an OS, windows 7, 10, and some have 11.
• M2400 14″ – looked at unsold listings, none are selling by themselves. As is lots. assuming they are missing drives, maybe batteries and probably no charger. w/e
• M6500 17″ – yeah this one is cheaper… 3 covet’s but near high price. some with drives, others without. most turn on. six systems w ith i5’s advertised, all others but one are i7
• M4500 15″ – This one is cheaper (vs the M4400)… lol guess ppl want the C2D/C2Q bragging rights, oh and DDR2 is more expensive too. so maybe that justifies the steep price, it shouldn’t.

2nd & 3rd Gen w/ MXM GPUs

M6600 – about a fifth don’t have screens on but “turn on”, 12 systems with i5’s, the rest im assuming are i7, WAIT. 57 QM machines and 7 XM machines, quite a bit of those hover at mid to high price :0. mid to high price is a stretch, just get a system with FHD or badass GPU if you could.
M4600 – No notes
M6700 – a few past EX+ price… a lot of systems with windows 10 installed, in low to high price :), 24 systems with “no” in it, most missing drives.
M4700 – most of these seem to be good quick fixes. dont really see any broken machines.

2013 4th Gen, last socketed CPUs*

M6800 – woah, a shit load of these… I guess 4th gen is pretty popular, and probably the design tax on the 7710 makes ppl buy these ones. Oh yeah, last 17″ system to have an removable CPU
M4800 – I’m thinking the high price is a bit too high, vs how many EX+ systems are there. Would I sell one of these for $270? you betcha! buy one? eh mid price only.
M3800 – originally had 75 results on old search (which means it included 2015 models), LOL. anyways EX+ from UK, a lot of systems are untsted, or missing drives, actually quite a bit of lows are shells/scrap/parts scavengers.
M2800 – max CPU is a i7-4710mq, which is like thirty bucks… These are basically a, actually they are literally an E6540, Nothing special, maybe dGPU as standard, but same number of slots. And yeah, there’s a few systems with i5’s in them. holy shit. Don’t buy from user h5920… they got bad feedback only from laptops, basically didnt ship or send something else on the reviews…. additionally they have sold 4 laptops with the same default photo and specs, so that means they are grifting, they are lazy with photos (all have same specs? sus) or its unlikely they are cancelling orders or maybe buyers aren’t paying. I’d just look at someone else selling one.

2015 New Sleek Designs, DDR4

• 7710 – ah, guess its the same price to the M6800.
• 7510 – No notes
• M3800 2015 – old search had 2 results, fuck. now we up 33 results 🙂 some low systems are prob parts/no drives, but most afterwards seem to be turn key, little fix up.
• 5510 – low systems are as is, no hdd, afterwards quitre a bit have drives and OS.
• 3510 – there’s like 10 systems not working, most low sold have a drive in it, but don’t always count on it. Prob decent machine for photo editing.

2017 – Last MXM GPUs & Bottom Dock Port

• 7720 – dat EX+ tax… 88 systems with 32GB RAM from low to EX+. wtf I found 46 systems with i7-6820HQ CPUs, so DONT fuckin get this or at least pay something similar to the 7710. about 30 xeon systems at every price too 🙂 64GB MAX on these, mostly high to EX+, a few in mid.
• 7520 – no notes, I was grinding thru em
• 5520 – Not sure why these are cheaper than the 5510. really weird, but less international sales? really strange IMO. whack my Latitude 7490 is dying and it wont charge off my lil battery pack.
• 3520 – XEON TIME. Prob why they got a bit higher. quite a bit of i5 systems, even up to EX+ prices (25 total). BRUH one xeon system sold under low price.. ouch! 2 bids, but the description was sketch.

2018 – DGFF GPUs Introduced (1st Gen)
Quad & Six Core systems

• 7730 – goddamn these are still expensive… i own one, fuck this thing, build quality to shit, garbo keyboard.
• 7530 – not sure why this one goes down in price at EX+… oh yeah the build quality lol, and no dock connector anymore. maybe im doing my numbers wrong too, however there legit was more expensive machines and strangely a lot more sold.
• 5530 – No notes
• 5520 2 in 1 – Found them by adding to the search (convertible, tablet, 2 in 1, 2-in-1, fold, foldable)… idk why i didnt last time. anyways, these have 2 silver hinges so its easy to find them, because the normal one has a shitty macbook style hinge that’s all black like the laptop
• 3530 – might be off on the pricing… but they aren’t really that much higher than the 3520…

2019 – Low Voltage, Quad, Six and Octo-cores

• 7740 – wayyyyyy up in price now.
• 7540 – quite a bit i9 systems up to the high price, but many more past, xeon’s are more mixed around. The 2 only RTX 4K systems are past EX+ price, however there are quite a bit of RTX 3000 systems around, but yeah most are in EX+ territory
• 5540 – NUMBERS ROUNDED OFF TO REPRESENT CLASSIC FORD ENGINE SIZES, FUCK YEA. maybe 5 sus systems that are used for parts hunting or scrap. everything else seems to be working. oh yeah and they are similar to the 530 prices in the hi & EX+
• 3541 – about 12 systems with no OS, and probaly a nother 10 more without drives. like the first 8 are parts harvesting, otherwise they should be working. Maybe snag a steal at $200 idk, ellyhub sold one that cheap kek.
• 3540 – like 6 parts machines, some with bios locks (buy them!),

2020 – DGFF Gen 2, 16:10 on select systems

• 7750 – 8 systems with i5 processors, 7 systems with 4K/UHD, basically new/refurbs at EX+ price.
• 5750 – stupid expensive, dont overpay for the XPS version, unless you want thinness
• 7550 – not too many xeons but they are around at all prices, i9’s are p much high EX+ only, which is where RTX 5000 lies at too, and UHD systems and… so on.
• 5550 – damn sleek style bumped the fuck out of this thing, jfc.
• 3551 – prob can snag some deals in the low price, its not that big of a jump from the 3541. But then it can go overboard, best of luck!
• 3550 – No notes

2021 – Before Hell

• 7760 – quite a bit of open box and new systems
• 5760 – Hella price jump lol
• 7560 – only two systems are parts, as is. the cheapest working system i saw sold, $550. basically all of these systems are working, maybe a wiped HDD, so you’ll save $$$ vs bidding against someone who wants a working os/guarnatee its working.
• 5560 – Nah
• 3561 – now this price sobers me up… oof. someone sold one for CHEAP, $180 bc wifi not working?! wtf with an i5 but still! there’s a few sub 60 feedback score sellers… shit mine is barely above 650, ok i cant talk. wait 5 sellers with 0% on positive feedback,

2022 – DGFF Gen 3, CAMM, core count & “thin” or “performance”

• 7770 – mostly new, open box systems.
• 5770 – price jump on the hi to ex+, 🙂 most systems sold are NIB, open box, stock photo on the default pics. crazy shit. but fuck NO INTELLIPOINT
• 7670 – nah
• 5570 – you might nab a steal at $900 BIN, but otherwise it just depends what the seller wants to get rid of it, only like 8 systems sold in auctions, most in low, but last two in mid price. the A2000 GPU sold all over, so don’t overpay for it. hell the last item sold was FHD+, i thought it be QHD lol. 3 systems sold for parts, 30 used, 40 new and 40 open box, the other 9 are refurbs.
• 3571 – These prices just fucking jump holy shit. esp mid, to hi, to EX+! you might nab one for under $600 as a fuckin steal, but expect $700+ easily. mostly BIN units, open box/new, some with 1 bids, but one with like 30, prob bc UK seller (bad availability/low price)
• 3570 – EHHH…. EX_ is a jump off holy shit. some of the low systems may miss a drive and/or charger.
• 5470 – a lot of stock photos, all systems working, prob lightly used, or open/nib/new.

2023 – Hot off the production, not on eBay

• 7780 – too new, barely came out?
• 7680 – seller got a neg review 12 months back, but one positive said they didnt pack a blender well… so assume they are gonna just ship the box with the OG dell shipping AFTER they got their shipping i guess.
• 5680 – none on ebay… too new
• 5580 – There isn’t one… yet?
• 3581 – someone sold one for $600… but with stock photos, and I doubt an $1800 machine new (made this year) would sell so cheap… x for doubt
• 3580 – ebay tax… buy it direct from Dell
• 5480 – no notes

Graphics Cards

Ok, I don’t know all of the info, and its not like IBM didn’t have add on graphics cards on ThinkPads. I legit don’t know the info on what these cards are called on the OG machines, its probably something… so i’ll leave it kinda generic

These cards might be able to be replaced with other graphics card from machines they are based on? I don’t think you can upgrade to something newer… Can’t find much from forums.

MXM 3.0 B Type

This is like the standard for awhile. I think all of these can use MXM 3.0 B type, maybe the 15″ can only fit the A type? And the max card? Some have success with a Quadro P5000 with 16GB dRAM, but others have problems. The benefit with Precision is that they seem to be 95% compatible with Alienware MXM cards. But not all systems can upgrade to that, on my video I uploaded, user arbitarygrill6886 had said:

Dell Graphics Form Factor, first (citation needed) introduced on the 17″ Alienware from 2019 at CES, it’s Dell’s answer to.. uh MXM being shite? But whats lame is that, it’s more closed down than MXM. For one thing, I’ve yet to see if a 15″ Precision can take a card from a 17″ machine. Yeah they cuck the 15″ models, maybe max is 6GB or 8GB, while the 17 fuker has 8GB or 16GB cards… Annoying as hell. What

They changed this format a bit, the connector is adjacent to the I/O, so its not compatible with the version 1.

They changed this card again, and its a fucking pentagonal shape. Ok the other 2 were, but this time, there’s a big slash in it. Fucking I don’t know the upgrade route, because Dell got annoying with the “new” 16 inch format.

Soldered GPUs

I think all XPS based and Latitude originated machines (from 2008 & onward) have onboard graphics cards soldered onto the motherboard.
