Google sheets link – HP Zbook Version 1 – Feb 2026
This is gonna be a stub, check the google sheets link for specs.
I rambled a bit.
Good evening, today when I am writing this is 12:31PST, February 22nd 2026.
The girlfriend is laying down on the couch, listening to an audiobook, Ready Player One.
And I am here with a crochet blankie around my feet, about to write what I found on HP laptop workstations.
I have a confession about HP, I do not like HP consumer products, I do not care for their logo, and I do not get how they are still so popular. Our first computer was an HP, this must have been around 2003 or 2004, it had a Pentium 4. I remember going to the store with my dad, the style wasn’t as cool as the Sony Vaio at Best Buy. Maybe if we went across the 15 freeway, we could have went to the Circuit City and gotten an IBM… Anyways at that time, I remember it was nothing compared to that big ass Alienware desktop either. But I saw the price of that PC and I couldnt believe how expensive it was and remember Xbox having better graphics for a fourth of the price. That desktop came with some shitty games, but the Puzzle Bobble one was fun. During that time pirating music was pretty common, we would all make mixed CDs and the rich kids had iPods or MP3 players. The HP Compaq was good for downloading via Napster, then Limewire and then Bearshare, it did well but we would fill the drive with too much and had to delete songs.
This was not the first computer that I had come across. My Godmother gave me a… Radioshack TRS thingy, but I didn’t have a clue how to use it, and it didn’t come with a fucking manual, or like any software, so I just played my Sega Genesis instead. Later on an aunt of mine had gotten a PC, I think it had a Pentium II, they had a Super Nintendo too, so that was what I did. A cousin of mine next door had a PC as well, idk what it had, but it was def the old windows system, I remember playing that skiing game and also the Incredible Machine, that game was fun as hell! Lastly I had another cousin, who would make us call her an aunt, she had a computer too and it had this futuristic racing game that was fun but freezed out on me. I never was able to beat it, it was some futuristic car game, idk if it had weapons, but it would mess up on a race that had a transparent track. I’ll find it one day, just havent really bothered.
Anyways, during college there was myspace and from there was more music to discover. I ended up getting a job and buying an external hard drive bc we needed it to save music. Hell yea. Some years pass and after moving in and then away from my OTP, I would read online on how to build a PC. I needed something to do, and gaming on my PS3 or Xbox 360 was getting boring. The computer we had was slow and I wanted to build a gaming PC. I read up on a lot of guides, saved money and bought everything brand new from TigerDirect.com, back when Logan of TekSyndicate fame was working there. That day of the delivery, I was working an opening shift at Starbucks, 4AM to 12:30. Yeah I was one of the lucky ones getting over 30 hours a week. Anyways, despite being so tired, I decided to build the desktop in the garage. It was a lot of fun. Sometime around 7PM, I had gotten done with the install and I decided to transfer any music and documents from the hard drive of the HP. I put it back together and the HP desktop never started up again… Great, I’ll just put the hard drive somewhere on the desk then. I think we have the computer stored somewhere, but damn was that little desktop a pain to get into.
Years later, when I got my “dream” eWaste job, we would get HP computers from time to time. I was already a few years into ThinkPads, and /g/ said that most HPs sucked, so they did. Ok not all, consumer shit sucked, but some of the EliteBooks were good. However most HP computers were just not good sellers. What I disliked the most out of HP, as their annoying naming format. None of it made sense, and we once mislisted a laptop with the wrong fucking numbers and this ebay profile with the name SportsNut44 or some bullshit scammed us of like $70 bc we “sent him the wrong laptop”. It was so fucking annoying, we got negative feedback from that crap. Anyways, HP is just annoying with their laptop line, but I have done the research and it finally makes sense.
8:30AM I woke up… ummm went to bed bc I was trying to make sense of the model lines.
When it came to laptop workstations.

So thats all the big companies and little ones. But HP isn’t easy. Ok it could be, I could have just only did the Z book and disregarded some of the cool EliteBook W machines, still I like coming across some of their Compaq biz machines too. The G40 ThinkPad gets the hype of “having a desktop processor in a laptop” but that was more like that CPU was compatible with some desktop sockets. I believe Dell had a desktop CPU but I could be mistaken with it being socket 478 (Hold up, an Inspiron XPS did come with a 3.4GHz Pentium 4), which is the same case as the G40. HP / Compaq did have a laptop with a 775 desktop CPU and even the fucking 3.2 Extreme Edition, the zd7000 & zd8000 machines (I just found out some had even a 3.6GHz CPU)

There are some that I missed, but I assure you, i DGAF about most of them. Some of these Elitebook & ProBooks are entering E Series territory, and y’all know how I intentionally don’t even bother with them on my guides. I didn’t even bother with the Elite/Spectre or whatever shit is. They make too many laptops, and honestly I wanted to jump into VoodooPC / Omen computers, but I can’t find like a basic timeline of it. Yeah I’m lazy, but I don’t want to be just grabbing random things and then getting it all wrong. That took half a fucking day, ugh.
Price guide
You know how it goes, if not…
Model – Embedded link to eBay sold search so you can check yourself, sorted by low to high.
Sold – How many units sold, the higher the better, because they are selling, and if they are selling, there must be plenty available to buy/bid on. The max i found was over 300, which isn’t as great as 1000 like in other guides.
Low – From 1 to 100 listings, this would be the 25th to 35th cheapest one.
mid – This would be 50th to 60th sold, so middle price.
High – This is about 72 to 85 of cheapest laptop sold.
EX+ – 1 to 10th most expensive machine, typically new, collectors, warranty or just buzzwords.
- at the end of the table, I write down some notes of what I came across in a list format.
- It could be something intersting or just psychosis.
- Sometimes I link a seller, & their location.
- Most the time its bc they have good deals, are high end or just happen to have a shit ton.
- Sometimes I link a seller, & their location.
- It could be something intersting or just psychosis.
Begginging with the mainstream 15″ machines, then 16″ it evolved to.
Then going to 17″ then 14″.
Afterwards its the budget 15/16″, “mobile workstation 15/16”
Then the Ultrabook 14″, 15″ & 16″
OFC it wouldnt be complete with some out of sort laptops, so those are there too.
I did do research on CPU/GPU/LCD/RAM/SSD specs, but god fuck is HP annoying when it comes to looking up specs. They dont fucking keep their resources, so I’ll have to fetch them from other sites. Yeah I can’t find a dedicated website for their specs, Dell and Lenovo at least have their standards. Anyways, I just want to get done with this thing 😛
If you’re curious about upgrading graphics cards on these, just know that HP discontinued the MXM slot standard when it came to the Fury models. Main 15 and 17 models had MXM up until then. The Fury 15, 16, and 17 have a similar interface as Dells DGFF connector, they call it the HP Beam Connector. Unlike Dell, it seems to be one chunky piece of metal connected by 3 screws, and not 2 or 4 little bits w/ two screw points. You’re on your own when it comes to upgrading.
Remember if you’re looking for a DreamColor display, check for that little rainbow sticker near the LCD panel. Additionally some of these laptops do have a color calibrator installed on the palmrest or touchpad. No I’m not gonna look up all that shit, I’ve done enough.

Long time ago I was wowed by one of these i think the G4, I think it was around 2016? It was half a year before I quit eWaste. It came with a Xeon CPU, the best graphics card and I don’t think it came with a DreamColor display. It was wayyy better than my W530, W700ds and just about as powerful as my 2nd gen desktop at the time. It was the first time I came across an NVMe drive, it was super fast. I couldn’t believe it. The panel was pretty nice, at the time my nicest panel was a 14″ B140HAN01.3 IPS that was on my modded T430s. What blew me away was the audio, it felt like surround, especially when it worked so well on League of Legends with Karthus’ voice lol
