Prices researched from March to end of April 2024.
The previous version only covered the MacBook 12, 2008 Aluminum Unibody MacBook and Air 13″ models.
Version 3 adds:
- Apple Silicon M1, M2, M3 MacBook Airs
- 2006 to 2009 MacBook 13″ models
- All 11 Inch MacBook Air Models
- Revised search procedures
- Visual Price guide 🙂
My MacBook 12 I have? It’s wifi is broken because one of the antenna’s isn’t connecting correctly to the board. Yeah I broke the solder on the actual logic board, so I’m not sure what’s the best way of resoldering it. Lessons learned, just buy one with a good battery 🙂
Price Guide will be semi-chronicle order.

How to Identify one of these fuckers? If the bottom plate has yet to be swapped, it’s real easy.
The serial number should be posted on the bottom of the Mac, and it should also be on “About this Mac” if they post a screen shot of it.
We can look up the specs thanks to EveryMac’s Serial Look Up.
Next you have the Model No. Which is normally Axxxx, followed by an EMC number, xxxx.
The Axxxx number is usually similar if they share the chassis, and the EMC is quite often specific to the model. In most cases the EMC changes when the system gets upgraded with a newer CPU or LCD in some cases.
Like I stated previously, links will go straight to the sold eBay search.
#Sold is how many laptops sold within the past 3 months of price research
Low is the lower price that seems to turn on at least, 1/4 to 33% of the page.
Mid is well middle price, 50 to 65% of the page.
High is 75 to 85% of the hits
EX+ is 95%+, maybe only high spec’d machines or NOS, complete in box.
MacBook 13
A1181 – 2006 to 2009 MacBooks
The “Square” ones, in white or black colors.
Black models will have the upgraded CPU and in some cases, had bigger hard drives.
Doesn’t matter, upgrade these to SSDs.
These Macbooks have smelly fucking keyboards, like the iBooks. The rounded 09 ones and aluminium ones have less of a stench.
Almost all of these have SATA I speeds. SATA II came in 2009 models…
Max OS varies on these, first 2006 upgrades to Snow Leopard, most others up to 10.7.5 Lion.
2009 models get 10.11 El Capitan, there are work a-rounds to upgrade further..
Ports: 2 USB 1.0, 1 mDVI, Firewire 400, Aux, Optical Audio in, RJ-45 Ethernet.
Until the 2008 models it was the same, though you’re not missing much, other than DVI or Display Port.

MacBook Air 13 Inch
I swear I had a post for MacBook airs… idk where it went for now…
These all have soldered RAM, old ones had spinning ZIF drives, then SSDs, then proprietary SSD formats.
Once the Retina models came out, soldered memory, as well as them using USB-C chargers instead of MagSafe.

Not sure why they made this, fanless, super small, Retina LCD, they killed off the 11″ MacBook Air for it, and I think it was more expensive? I liked mine when it worked 🙂
