This is the 2nd time I’ve done prices for these machines. Lets see how it goes.
Price research from 5/22/25 to 6/7/2025, I went to Michigan for a week and a half 🙂

Price guide info
Model – Highlighted text is a link to the ebay search, sold listings. The first search is either a generic catch all search, or just the MTM. Then from there it is specific models
Sometimes I sift through the information, as itll have parts listings and in some cases
Sold – How many units sold
Low, Mid, High – Should be obvious. 25-30%, 50-60%, 75-85% of the sold listings.
EX+ – Higher than high, but usually bc of it being in great condition, it has something special (accessories, complete with original box, new old stock, certain type of OS installed). In some cases, it can just a working unit…

Pricing data from TPG 9 (2024) will be underlined and italicized. It my not correlate from the guide I’ve done previously, e,g: its a high price, but tpg10 price was a lot higher, so it got bumped into mid price.

  • In this era, there is a lot of demand but not so much of supply. That said, JCS computers, errr Jeremiah’s Computer Store LLC is an awesome seller of old and late model ThinkPads! Their listings are accurate, they take good pictures, and I believe they are a good seller.

Economy Class ThinkPads

• 5523-S
  • Price is actually a US/EU N33sx system, not this PS/55 model
  • Otherwise I see some parts for PC/XT systems that are avail, but none for PS/55 (well idk if its compatible but you know).
    • Got on an airplane & to working on this guide 😀
• PS/Note
  • Basically PS/Note line had the length/width dimensions of a A4 sheet of paper or smaller.
    • PS/2 Note Were bigger, and had room for more chips & power.
    • Thus PS/Note were cheaper due to its size… couldln’t fit in as much.

  • Infamously known to be built by Zenith Data Systems & its quality control is BAD

  • I didn’t know about this thing until 2024. I guess there was a special order color screen version of the 300. I am guessing it was not available in USA, as there’s no info on it via PSREF or ThinkWiki.

  • Hinges have broken off laptop. Comes with charger & seller hasn’t been able to test it… If thats true, then a proper clean through may do the trick, or maybe they tried powering it on to death… Always remove the battery! Ribbon cables for typers avail, some random old parts/manuals.

From here IBM took a closer watch of their economy series, and based them closer to the flagship 700 design language. Although they both have similar bento box designs, the 7xx models had kept the proprietary 4 pin trapezoid power adapter, while the 3xx models had a coax type end. These plugs are slightly larger than the later 7xx, 600, and T/X/A/R types that we would get later. Additionally, you will find more bells and whistles on the 7xx vs the 3xx models, specifically CPU power, HDD disk size and cutting edge displays.

      • I am assuming its just a placeholder for 360C machines, including CSE, CE, CS etc. Because it would just simply be the 360X, but I think IBM just called it the 365 instead… and there would eventually be a 365X

310 “LaCrosse”… Whut?

When IBM released the 370C back in May 1995, it was suspposed to be a special edition model. Based on the 755 model line, it shares the same MTM and parts, but was an upgrade from the 360CE. Legit it was a special order and inventory was low, really dunno why they did it. However when it came to the numbering system, IBM jumped a few numbers, so the successor to the 365 could not be a 370… as it was an older model. Yet they didnt jump to 375, nor did they jump to 380, despite there being a 380 model coming out later. Anyways, to me it is just a meh machine out of all the 300 series. There’s even a youtube video about the frustration of this thing. Maybe I’ll get one and find out its actually a decent thing, but for now, there’s others to get… if i can afford it. 😡

Also the 315 is not necessarily an upgrade from the 310 unit. It is actually just a retail unit of the 310. That sounds odd, but I believe it was basically a 310 that was geared towards consumers (assuming it was sold in big box stores like Best Buy & Curcuit City) instead of corporate buyers. The software for the 315 is different than the 310, so maybe it was cheaper due to licensing and lesser software. I am just throwing stones at that, but this and the 380 had a 3*5 retail unit to offer.

• This thing is essentually a fucked up 390 that can play music CDs when its “off”. Which is neat feature some laptops had at that time.
