Research time from April to August 2025. Fuckin A!
On previous guides I had posted prices of all laptops, but honestly I have made posts for them and well, I don’t want to copy/paste all that shit again. This took long and making that will take a long time.
One day I’ll learn mySQL and integrate google sheets… any help is appreciated!
Only searched/models I have added since V9:
- 770 5:4
- specific if I come across that rare screen option, instead of writing it in the notes
- T480 Libreboot / Coreboot
- Didn’t know this was a thing, so it’s prices are there if you want one ready
- T480 T25 Mod
- The keyboard mod, I put it under… wtf idk why its there
- X3xx Libre
- For X300, X301 and X1 Carbon Libreboot machines
- X1 Coreboot
- The 2012 X1 can be corebooted now! π
- X1C 12
- X1C 13 Aura
- I will eventually make a comparison/price guide like I did way back then!
So its most 2022 models, I’ll have to do research/specs when I do 2023 and later.
But with that said, I gotta fix how I do my formatting on that spreadsheet π
Because intel with their Power Cores, Efficiency cores, and LPE cores is fucking annoying

Honourable mention goes towards Dell Precision 3530 – is very cheap and is literally more repairable than the ThinkPad T480/580. I got mine for $230 with i7-8750H, 32GB RAM, Quadro P600 4GB (Pascal graphics, still supported), 512GB SSD and a shot battery. I upgraded the battery to 92Wh (that much, yes) and the way it’s more repairable is that it has a modular DC jack. Built well enough too, but the hinges develop problems and it’s generally not as solidly built as the ThinkPad T480/580. But the VGA port and good fan and port placement is fantastic, also it does NOT throttle during sustained load. Shame on Lenovo for not making the T480/580 as good as they could have been
Sounds like a pretty good deal. Lenovo has been sleeping on making a cheap full power quad/six/eightcore laptop. Now they have the T15p, but Dell has been doing it for years w/ the Precision 35xx line. Plus you got parts compatibility with the Dell Latitude 5000 Series.
Hey James,
You added “X1 Coreboot” but the item sold was the “X1 Carbon Gen 1” and not just the “X1”. The plain “X1”, also known as “X1 Hybrid” is corebootable as well but none have sold (I have one and plan to coreboot/sell it when I get a chance). The X1 is sandy bridge while the X1c1 is ivy bridge. These two feel like different versions of the X220/230 with the X1c1 having a 8+4mb EEPROM just like the X230. These machines have been corebootable for a while now but I’m not sure where it’s documented online, since I only saw it in the menuconfig when I built coreboot for another machine. There are a bunch of other weird machines that support coreboot like the Z61t, L520, S230u, and E460 as well as most of the chromebooks but I’ve never seen them listed on ebay. There are even more machines that are unofficially supported but it’s probably best to just add them as they sell.
Thank you! I should have been more clear with my “X1 Coreboot” to “X1C Coreboot” or something similar. My “X3xx libreboot” included the standard X1 alongside the X300 & X301, but I just don’t have to have a separate search for them all. Anyways, It was just a placeholder for any X1 Carbon coreboot machines, as the search wasn’t specific to the CPU or Gen. I haven’t kept up wit Coreboot or Libreboot development, so it was a surprise to me when 8th Gen systems had that available. When I find coreboot or libreboot in my pricing research, I would create a new search for them, so I haven’t came across those machines you have listed.
I think it just depends on who wants to do it, and then sell it. But I’ve seen some core/libreboot laptops come and go for cheap, like the T400s libreboot having no price premium over regular T400s.
